The centre is currently focused on providing state of the Art Bariatric Surgical and allied services to patients with morbid obesity. Bariatric & Metabolic surgery has been shown to be of immense benefit to patients with metabolic disturbances like Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic Syndrome. The center is exploring pioneering and innovative ideas that include surgical cure of Diabetes Mellitus type II in overweight patients.
Introduction and training of surgeons in the technique of Minimal Access Surgery remains one of the foremost priorities of the Centre. This is the First Centre in all over the country recognized by the National Board of Examinations for training leading to the award of superspeciality training in minimal access surgery as "Post-doctoral fellowship in Minimal access surgery". The Centre has so far trained more than 3000 surgeons all over India and abroad. There are various ongoing training courses in the Centre.The department organised numerous international, national and regional conferences, World Congress, Asia-Pacific Conferences, and conducted Live surgical workshops on Advanced Minimal Access & Bariatric Surgery since its inception. The department telecast live surgeries through video-conferencing at numerous International and national centres.
